In less than a month, Ghana will be hosting the Africa Road Championships and the Paracycling Road Championships at the Ablekuma Ollebu stretch.
The Cycling World Body, Union Cycling International-UCI has appointed top Irish International commissaire, Paul Watson as the President of Commissaire Panel to lead the event.
Watson’s was appointed as an international commissaire for the World Track Championships by the UCI in 2021.
Watson has wide experience on the international stage; a former rider himself with his father, Jack Watson an international commissaire and his grandfather also a former rider.
Paul Watson has officiated at World Championship level ,at World Cups, Six Days the Olympics and at major International pro Road stage races.
Watson was on hand when Bradley Wiggins broke the World Hour Record back in London in June,2015.
Watson, upon his appointment, mentioned that ” I am delighted to have been appointed as President for the African Road Championships taking place from the 8-13/02/2023″.
He is expected to arrive in Ghana on the 6th of February and will be meeting Federation Executives and Officials on the 7th.
The Championship has been fully captured on the UCI calendar, giving extensive milage and prominence to the event and by extension showcasing the great efforts by Federation in promoting the Sport in Ghana and beyond.
The Africa Road Championships forms part of qualifiers for the Paris 2023 Olympics and has already enrolled over 20 countries participating.
