Ghana Athletics (GA) has received an invitation from their Nigerian counterpart to participate in the Nigeria International Relay Championship scheduled for December 9-11 in Asaba.
Mr Bawa Fuseini, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GA, who disclosed this to the Times Sports yesterdaysaid Ghana will raise teams to participate in the men and women 4×100, men and women 4x400m and mixed relay events at the championship that will draw unspecified number of countries.
Consequently, a 27-member relay team consisting of athletes and coaches has been constituted to commence preparation for the international event.
For the 4x100m event, Abdul Rashid Saminu will be expected to lead a team consisting of James Dazbe, Solomon Hammond, Mustapha Bokpin and Gadayi Edwin.
The women category of the event will have Benedicta Kwartemaa, Gifty Oku Kwakyewaa, Beatrice Mensah, Doris Mensah Quainoo and Deborah Acheampong.
Ghana will be represented by Addo Frank, Daniel Otibu, Osrael Anane, Dukpe Emmanuel and Gad Owusu in the men 4x400m event with the likes of Grace Obour, Grace Kombetto, Jennifer Tenenjotop, Ethel Amissah and Asana Hamidu in the women version of the event.
The mixed-relay team would have Ethel Amissah, Asana Hamidu, Daniel Otibu and Israel Anane.
Coaches for the invitational tournament are Salah Musah, Seidu Munkaila and Oti Charman.
According to Mr Fuseini, expenditure for air return tickets, accommodation and feeding for Team Ghana will be taken care of by the Nigerians.
He commended the Nigerians for the organization of such a high-profile event he believes would offer a huge platform for countries to prepare for upcoming events in 2023.
