Ghana Boxing seems to be getting interesting recent times as boxers keep on challenging each other.
In fact the healthy positive rivalry has brought some excitement to assure boxing fans and promoters that there are big bouts to be seem.
Before Olympian, Samuel Takyi had come out to challenge National Super Featherweight title holder, Alfred Lamptey, Derek Quaye aka ‘Jesus’ had climbed the ring at the Bukom Boxing Arena during Fight Night 8 of the De-luxy Professional Boxing League to challenge the sensational John Quaye who is a toast of fans at the Boxing League.
A day after Samuel Takyi called out a fight against Alfred Lamptey, stylish John Quaye said he also has his eyes on the National title and wants to climb steadily, so he wants to face the Olympic medalist.
Manager of John Quaye, Mr. Mubarak Yussif Nanor who is a registered match maker with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has expressed boldly that they want to face Samuel Takyi.
“This is a fight we want -John Quaye v Samuel Takyi” he said and posted on his social media platforms.
John Quaye, who like Samuel Takyi switched from football to boxing has a professional record of 9 bouts, 4 loses, 4 wins and one draw.
According to Nanor, his boy was not serious with boxing initially, and considered playing football, but the De-luxy Professional Boxing League where he featured tuned his life around and he declare to go all out and take boxing to a higher level.
He defeated tough Seidu Yussif of Akotoku Academy which surprised boxing fans, and had moved on to win all his bouts in the League, and even attracted the attention and possible signing by Imax Management and Promotions.
Meanwhile, boxing fans have called on Samuel Takyi to rethink about his decision to challenge Alfred Lamptey and climb up gradually in the professional ranks. Here are some of the comments:
Ace Sports Journalist and Editor of Graphic Sports Maurice Quansah said “Takyi should go steadily. He shouldn’t rush”
Alkaline De Rheal Chaser expressed that “I think they should not be paired now”.
Ribeiro Robert said “If this is for hype purposes fine but not a good time for this… Takyi has to pave his own way”.
Addi Risky Empiroa said “we are ready for u Takyi”
According to USA based boxing writer, Daniel David Quartey “Samuel Takyi calling out Alfred Lamptey is needless. These are two prospects and there is no way they should fight at this level of their respective career. We are looking for more world champions not local champions. Samuel Takyi, I will never doubt your qualities and I will never do same relating to Alfred Lamptey. You (Takyi) must guide your line same as Alfred. Like I said we need more world champions not local Champions. You (Takyi) must rescind your call! Thank you”.
