Maurice Quansah, Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and Sports Editor at Graphic Communications Group has commended the organisers of the De-luxy Professional Boxing League which keeps on improving after each fight night.
The keen sports enthusiast who was once upon a time board member of the Ghana Boxing Authority as well as Communications Director said Ghana Boxing has been resurrected with the bi weekly event and hopes it will be better and bigger, as boxing is brought to the homes of people yet the Arena is always full.
Speaking on Max TV as a Special Guest, Mr. Quansah who was born into sports, loved football and Manchester United, he played active basketball at school and promotes other sports disciplines.
He said Bukom is a small community but has produced world champions
“Let’s promote the legacy ” he stressed.
” Max TV has done massively well promoting boxing in Ghana. We need more funding and exposure for our boxers ” he noted.
” Watching the GBA President from afar, he seems to be a person who wants things done, we need more of such leaders, as the De-luxy Paint Professional Boxing League has room to expand the boxing eco system ” he emphasized.
He urged the Boxing Authority to find ways and means for boxing to give people the opportunity to excel in life.
He advised boxers and people who want boxing to grow to fight hard to get what they want.
He expressed that the Bukom Boxing Arena is a good infrastructure for the promotion and development of Ghana Sports, and can also benefit corporate and other guests including tourists.
“The boxing value is increasing and we need to promote it” said the articulate media practitioner.
Maurice Quansah said he is happy with the developmental strategy of encouraging juvenile and amateur boxers on the show.
He said boxing is a sweet science which develops boxers, so those who love education will be smarter.
“Let’s keep young boxers in school as we give them the exposure to become future stars, because boxing is part of the creative industry ” he stressed.
He said everybody is benefitting from the boxing league and hailed the grass roots development infused into the promotion.
He praised Mr. Maxwell Takyi CEO of Imax Media for his contributions to Ghana Boxing, observing that he has picked dedicated people who deliver efficiently.
He hinted that companies are also looking at the social capital, while Government must also play the role of providing facilities and funds.
Mr. Ernest Quaye Arday, Media Director of Imax Media who was also on the show said more can be done on the league and it must be sustained.
“We need more assistance, we want more organizations to come on board” he said.
A lot can be done by government and other corporate entities when they come on board.
He hinted that the GBA and Imax Media are trying to come out with an educational endowment fund to support young boxers.
“We have to take boxing to other regions as there have been producing world champions from the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions. Our doors are wide open, we want companies to support us and government must give them tax rebates” he expressed.
Meanwhile, the President of the GBA, Abraham Neequaye has indicated his interest in setting up a boxing foundation in Ghana to support boxers.
