Ace Time Keeper Edward Addo Of Ghana Boxing Demands Recognition And Honour

After operating as the only and still best time keeper in Ghana Boxing for 47 years, Edward Addo, a retired former employee of the Ministry of Defence says it is time he is honoured by the boxing and sports fraternity.

“This is the first time I have been invited to a television studio and I am very grateful to Omashi TV,  The Big Fight Night, at times they call me on air for scores, but this is the first time I am live on air” he said.

Having joined the game as a referee, he changed roles to become a time keeper in the absence of one Brisco Addo who was in charge then, and it later became an important activity of his life attending all boxing matches.

“I have to concentrate throughout the bouts watching my time, the referee and the ring to always be accurate.

“The role is not rewarding but we sacrifice gor the development and promotion of Ghana Boxing” he expressed.

Mr. Edward Addo who works for both professional and amateur boxing said the allowance is not encouraging and his life is always in danger, but he always thanks the Almighty for his protection, mercy and grace.

He gives much credit to Mr. Teddy Lamptey formerly of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association for introducing him into the game which now loves so much.

The veteran ring official noted that Ghana Boxing is not declining but rather getting popularity and hoped a few problems with security and understanding of the business of Boxing would be solved.

He prayed that the new political administration in Ghana will invest in sports and pay attention to boxing because boxing has proved to be where Ghana can win medals at international competition like the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

Addo is married with five kids. He loves Ga Kenkey and fried fish and his hobby is boxing. His favourite boxer is Ike Bazooka Quartey, with his favourite trainer as Vincent Akai Nettey of Attoh Quarshie Boxing Club.
