The Black Satellites of Ghana were beaten 2-1 by rivals, Nigeria at the 2024 West African Football Union WAFU Under 20 Championships in Togo.
Jerry Afriyie of Ghana was declared Best Player and Goal King of the tournament scoring five goals in five matches and he was awarded with the prizes.
Despite a determined effort and a goal from star forward Jerry Afriyie, Ghana could not overcome the resolute Nigerian side, who clinched the title.
Afriyie, who has been a standout performer throughout the tournament, increased his tally to five goals, but his efforts weren’t enough to secure victory in the final.
Nonetheless, the Black Satellites’ strong campaign in the tournament has earned them qualification for the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where they’ll have another opportunity to compete for a spot in the FIFA U20 World Cup.
The final between Ghana and Nigeria followed an earlier third-place match in which Ivory Coast defeated Niger 2-1, claiming the bronze medal.
As the Black Satellites return home with silver, their performance in this year’s WAFU Zone B U20 Championship has set a promising foundation for upcoming competitions.
