“Am Bowing Out In Grand Style” Says WISA President Gloria Commodore

The President of Women In Sports Association (WISA), an NGO that encourages girls and women participating in sports with an annual awards ceremony has disclosed that due to age and other circumstances, she is bowing out after the 10th edition.

She however welcomes any entity that can take up the challenge to continue with the awards programme and still motivate up and coming ones.

“No one is helping me, I am shocked and surprised at Ghanaian companies because apart from Ghandour Cosmetics no one has come to support the initiative, and I do it with my own pension. Now I am tired and will call it a day after ten years. I thank my media colleagues, SWAG, GOC, WOSPAG, the NSA and everyone who has contributed in a little way to make these awards a success over the years” she expressed.

The 10th WISA Awards is slated for the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday September 21, 2024.

32 individuals and some organisations will be honoured for their achievements in sports during the year under review.

They include Rose A. Yeboah who represented Ghana in long jump at the Paris Olympic Games, Perpetual Okaidja who won gold in MMA at the 13th African Games, Nasaara Quansah and Cynthia Mensah who are sprinters in track & field and Lawrencia Okine a hockey player.

Also to receive recognition are DDG Mrs Patience Baffoe Bonnie, SCO Hagar Laryea of Ghana Prisons, Vida Boffowaa who plays handball and international fencer Kelsey Woname.

Some sports journalists will also be recognized for their contribution to Ghana Sports, they are Sammy Heywood Okine of the GOC and African Sports, Prince Annang of Max TV, Theo Sampah, Phil John Quartey of Metro TV, Aniela Allotey of TV3, Doreen Lamptey of Obonu TV, Wendy Naa Deidei Sampah and Awurabena Adzi of HSTV.

Some staff of the National Sports Authority (NSA) who have contributed to sports development and promotion in Ghana, Thomas Kumordzi  and Ms Bettey Dzima will also be honoured as well as some members of the Trinity Church who support the worthy course.

Others in the list are Rashida Iddi and Abigail Twumasiwaa Okanta of the Ghana Sports Supporters Union who project Ghana during international football matches.
