Margaret Tembo of Zambia has booked her ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through universality placing done by the Olympic Games Tripartite committee.
She now joins celebrated Patrick Chinyemba in Zambia’s boxing team heading to Paris, and becomes the first individual female Zambian athlete to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Tembo’s qualification now brings to 22 the number of African boxers going to Paris.
Due to her outstanding performance in major competitions, she took one of the nine places that were up for grabs across the world in her weight category.
In addition to winning gold in the 2022 Africa Elite Championships, she also settled for bronze in the 2023 African Games in Accra, Ghana, and reached the quarter-finals of last year’s Africa Olympic Qualifiers.
