The annual MTN Ashantifest has been launched in Kumasi, the Garden City of Ghana.
Present at the event were former players, Opoku Nti aka Lord Zico, Abdul Razak aka Golden Boy, Francis Akwafo, and Frinpong Manso all Asante Kotoko legends.
Simon Amoah, Commercial Head, Northern Sector gave a speech on behalf of Mr. Adotey Mingle GM Ashanti Region.
Adwoa Baah Obeng, Senior Manager Retail Experience - North said Ashantifest is an annual regional festival created by MTN over a decade ago to bring us closer to the people of Asanteman and to show our appreciation to our valued customers in this region.
She noted that the festival has become an important part of our community engagement efforts, showcasing our commitment to supporting and enriching the communities we serve.
“It aims to bring life-enhancing initiatives, such as community improvement projects, sports events, and entertainment. So, in a nutshell, MTN Ashantifest celebrates the community spirit of Asanteman, bringing together neighborhoods across the region. It is a fantastic festival that fosters friendship and showcases the strong bond between MTN and this great region” she expressed.
According to her, during the month of June, MTN is also embarking on Y’ello Care, an annual staff volunteering program which is held simultaneously in the nineteen (19) countries where MTN operates.
“The theme for this year’s challenge is ‘Education for Rural and Remote Communities’; Learn Today, Lead tomorrow. This employee volunteering initiative demonstrates MTN’s commitment as a caring brand and a partner in executing projects aimed at transforming societies and enriching lives. As part of this initiative, we will be drilling digital boreholes to provide clean water for selected Senior High Schools across all 16 regions of the country. We will also be setting up container-based ICT Centers and Digital Literacy Clinics”.
“We are excited to continue this tradition of enriching lives with a variety of activities designed to engage and delight our customers during this year’s Ashantifest.
To celebrate the festival, we will be doing the following:
– We will hold the MTN Inter-Community Football Gala (MTN Ashantifest Cup)
– There will be SME Month activations to take care of the business community
– Partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers and on-ground sale of devices
In addition, there will be E-Sim activations, Fibre to the Home Activations, and other campaigns.
– We will also support the Africa Role Model Summit (Youth engagement)
– And finally, we will set up Customer Experiential Centers to resolve customer issues”.
She acknowledged the teams that have won the competition in the past. Abrepo won the 2021 competition, while Old Tafo claimed the cup in 2022. Currently, Ejisu is the reigning champion. Let’s applaud all our current and past winners.
She hoped the festival will ignite the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, and community interactions.
The matches for this year will take place from June 13th to July 28th, 2024.
