Ghana Shows Class At CAA Region II Championship

The CAA Region II Championship in Accra began on a bright note with Ghanaian Athletes showcasing high levels of performance, determination and sportsmanship.

Edwin Kwabla Gadayi clinched Gold Medal for Ghana in the men’s 100m finals after Hor Halutie had been beaten to third by two Nigerians in the Women’s 100m.

Gadayi also got stiff challenge from two Nigerians who took Silver and Bronze.

However, this time of 10.07secs does not yet qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Another Ghanaian Sarfo Ansah finished 4th in the race.

The female quartet of Ghana comprising Mary Boakye, Janet Mensah, Naseera Quansah and Hor Halutie won the 4x100m Women.

Faustina Owusu dominated the women’s Discus with a Golden victory at the ongoing CAA region II championship.

Esther Obenewaa also secured Gold for Ghana in high jump clearing 1.76m.

Arthur Ishmael after winning Gold in the Men’s 10,000m event said “It’s my dream to represent Ghana at the Olympics. He ran his personal best.

The Minister of Youth & Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif who was at the stadium expressed his satisfaction and support for the CAA Region II championship

The athletes were selected from security services, universities, and clubs. Some are based outside and have undergone rigorous training with the commitment to bringing honour to Ghana.

The CAA event dubbed ’Accra 2024’ has drawn top athletes from 15 countries across the sub region, including the host country Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gabon, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire,.

The competition includes sprints, distance races, hurdles, relays, and field events.
