Burkina Faso’s U-17 men’s national team, the Young Stallions were on Tuesday crowned champions of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations.
They beat Côte d’Ivoire 3-1 in an exciting final at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon in Accra on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
This win marks an improvement for the Young Stallions compared to their 2022 battle, where they finished runners-up in the same tournament. Back then, they were defeated by eventual champions Nigeria.
Burkina Faso’s forward, Asharaf Tapsoba, who stole the show before an enthusiastic crowd.
Cherif Aboubacar Sawadogo sealed the victory for the Young Stallions with a superd third goal in the dying minutes of the game, sparking jubilant celebrations amongst the team.
The victory does not only make Burkina Faso the WAFU Zone B U-17 champions, but also guarantees them a spot at the upcoming 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
