The Ghana Cycling Association (GFA) President, Mr. Mohammed Sahnoon is optimistic the nation’s best cyclists will do well at the upcoming 13th African Games to be hosted in Ghana.
He said inspite of several challenges in gathering all the best Ghanaian cyclists and selecting a route and venue to train, they are on course for a great event.
My. Sahnoon who is Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) believes the best will come out of the cyclists as they have demonstrated discipline and patriotism.
“We have 20 cyclists for the games. 12 men and 8 women. They are training hard with limited resources augmented recently by GOC support to all disciplines in the games. We are very hopeful for achieve some medals in the upcoming games. At this material time the games venue at Olebu which is yet to be fixed. MOYS and LOC on it as I understand” he told Yours Truly.
The Secretary General of the GCA, Mr. Mohammed Shabaan also expressed hope that they will deliver, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports who have set up a team to ensure that the cycling venue is prepared.
Miss Elizabeth Alhassan Gyamfi, media liaison officer of the GCA stressed that the venue for cycling at the Games is Ablekuma Olebu. She commended the female cyclist who have been responding to the tough training regime.
Mr. Dennis Moore PRO of Ghana Cycling is also sure of a successful event at the African Games.
Cycling has been labeled as one of the eight disciplines to be classified at the 13th African Games as a qualifier towards the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. Top cyclists Henry Tetteh Djanmah and Chris Symonds Bennet are in the team.
