Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has been named in the Black Stars provisional 55-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
The provisional list named by head coach Chris Hughton was released to the media on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, after the lost was sent to CAF earlier this week ahead of the start of the tournament in 24 days.
Lamptey has been superb for the Porcupine Warriors in their resurgence in the Ghana Premier League.
The former Inter Allies player has provided four assists in ten league games and has been the subject of debates as to whether he should be in the squad for the tournament.
Ghana is set to open their group stage campaign against campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 – that is in 25 days.
The Black Stars will then play against record champions Egypt in their second group match against Egypt in four days before wrapping up the group face against Mozambique on January 22.
By January 2024, it will be 42 years since Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982.
