Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions Medeama SC today presented the trophy to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin at his office at Parliament House.
Medeama SC who won the league for the first time have made history also as the first club from the western region to win the trophy in over 40 years.
The founder of the club, Mr. Moses Armah Parker has hinted that they win participate in the continental series and target the money zone.
Medeama has a blend of experienced players and rising stars.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin pledged to support Medeama Sporting Club ahead of their participation in next year’s CAF Champions League.
The Mauves and Yellows have an opportunity to compete at the continent’s top club competition following their triumph in the just-ended Ghana Premier League season.
Medeama won the Ghana Premier League title for the first time with a 3-0 victory over Tamale City at Akoon Park on the final day of the season, beating Bechem United and Aduana FC to the title.
The team visited Parliament on Wednesday, June 21, as part of their celebrations and were received by the Speaker, who pledged an amount of GH₵100,000 to the league champions.
“So Medeama SC, I want to assure you that the house is with you and I will proceed to pledge which you can take up from me anytime an amount of GH₵100, 000 now to support you.
“This is the time to enjoy, refresh, motivate and incentivise yourself ahead for the task ahead, we are with you. Congratulations,” Bagbin stated.
The Speaker also stressed that Parliament would provide unrelenting support to guarantee that Medeama SC wins the Champions League on behalf of the country.
“I want to on your behalf commit the house to go with them all the way to the continent to ensure that they win the African Cup for Ghana,” he added.
“This I will proceed to enforce to ensure that they get the necessary resources and motivation to surprise the continent by winning the cup.”
Tobinco Group of Companies has also gifted Medeama SC players Ghc100,000 for emerging as Champions of the 2022/23 GPL.
Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group, Mr. Samuel Amo Tobbin handed over the physical cash to the players and promised to support the Club ahead of the CAF Champions League campaign.
Medeama SC presented the trophy to the Tobinco Group of Companies this afternoon at their head-office.
